Entertainment Weekly has the first images from season 2 (below), and they definitely paint a haunting picture.
Hulu's award winning drama The Handmaid's tale won't be airing new episodes until later this spring, but lucky for fans who just can't wait, the online streaming platform just gave us our very first look at season 2.
Season 2 is going to need to go off book (with the first covering most of Margaret Atwood's acclaimed 1985 novel).
In addition, The Handmaid's Tale season one earned three Golden Globe nominations, winning in the Best Television Series - Drama and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama (Elisabeth Moss) categories. But season 2 (which will premiere in April on Hulu) will enter uncharted territory, albeit with input from Atwood, who serves as a consulting producer on the series. "You sort of intimidate yourself. Instead, you just have to do not forget to try and tell a good story".
"These scenes that are so lovely, while set in such a bad place, provide the kind of contrast that makes me happy", showrunner Bruce Miller tells EW of the stills.
"Margaret and I had started to talk about the shape of season 2 halfway through the first", said showrunner Bruce Miller. He continues, "These scenes that are so handsome, while set in such a bad place, provide the kind of contrast that makes me happy".
You can check out some additional photos from season two, courtesy of Hulu, below.
The new images offer our first look at a handmaid's funeral in Gilead, as well as a preview of the colonies-the radioactive wasteland where those convicted of crimes are sent to work themselves to death.
