The Minnesota Wild overcame a shaky start for a timely victory against a division rival.
Chicago, IL- The Minnesota Wild will return to the Central Division tonight when they land in Chicago for a showdown with the Blackhawks.
Wednesday's game in Chicago was your classic four-point game as the Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild entered the night in a three-way tie for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference with 48 points. He also should have had Sharp's effort at 5:14 of the period that got the onslaught underway for the Hawks and led to Anderson's exit.
"We fell off in the second period and we couldn't climb back", said alternate captain Dion Phaneuf.
Still, the Wild will take what they can, especially after the game looked like it could be headed for a blowout early on.
While the Senators were outshot 17-7 by the Hawks in the first period and Anderson had to be solid, it looked like he may have been screened on the shot by Panik that opened the scoring at 18:51 of the first. The one thing I like about his play is that he can get pucks on net when nearly all of the other 'Hawks defensemen have their shots blocked. Kane had a career-most five points during an 8-2 win against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, and his line with C Nick Schmaltz and LW Ryan Hartman has also been prolific of late.
But that's all the Blackhawks could muster. It was the first five-point contest of Kane's career, and the first time he had four assists in one game.
According to Buffalo's WGR-Radio, Kane was unhappy with Falk getting his stick up while the two battled in front of the net. "On which plays you're going..." "So we get a lot of points from our blue line, and that's what we need".
The Hawks scored four power-play goals to support goalie Anton Forsberg, who made 25 saves in his second straight start since he sat out four games in a row in favor of Jeff Glass.
Minnesota has had to adjust its lines since RW Nino Niederreiter (lower body) is out of the lineup.
The Senators talked Monday about improving their play in the second then allowed the Hawks to pull out to a 6-2 lead after 40 minutes. There's no timetable for his return.
Ottawa's struggles in the second period continued on Tuesday night.
The Blackhawks acquired winger Anthony Duclair and defenseman Adam Clendening from Arizona before the game in a trade for right wing Richard Panik and minor league forward Laurent Dauphin.
While the Wild lost on home ice last night in overtime to Calgary, the Hawks were in Ottawa putting together an 8-2 victory.
Boucher added that Ryan attempted to play through the pain against the Blackhawks. Coach Joel Quenneville said he's "looking for a little bit more from (Seabrook) ... whether it's defending, quickness or offensively".
