Police searching for 2 missing Texas girls after mother's 'suspicious' death

Suspect arrested After 2 missing girls found Safe from Colorado 512018

Two sisters, aged 14 and 7, who were abducted from the Texas home where their mother was found dead are discovered safe 700 miles away in Colorado

Miles has been wanted for questioning in the death of 44-year-old Tonya Bates and the abduction of her daughters since police did a welfare check Saturday and found the woman dead from blunt force trauma and the girls missing.

Authorities found the missing 7-year-old and 14-year-old*, in a auto in Trinidad, Colorado, around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The investigation into the girls' abduction and Bates' death is ongoing. The deputy called for backup and authorities initiated a 'high-risk traffic stop'.

Police issued an Amber Alert for the girls, noting they could be with Miles and could be driving in Bates' vehicle, which was also missing from her home. It is believed that the missing girls are with 44-year-old Terry Allen Miles. Miles was identified as a person of interest in the suspicious death and in the disappearance of the girls.

He says Terry Miles acted inappropriately with Lili, when he used to live next door.

She and Miles were roommates in Round Rock, Texas.

Officers reached out to Tonya's mother, who said that Tonya had two young girls and a roommate named Terry Allen Miles. Griffith said that he wants to take custody of his daughter and her sister. It's believed 14-year-old Lili was being home-schooled.

According to the Department of Justice, a federal complaint was unsealed in Austin Thursday, charging Miles in the kidnapping of the two girls.

Miles has an extensive criminal past, officials have said.

One person is in custody, Round Rock police chief Allen Banks said.

Miles pleaded guilty to domestic abuse battery in 2009, 2011 and 2015, to illegal possession of stolen things in 2015 and to simple battery in 2016, according to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office. "When we interviewed him for that it was a pretty disturbing interview", said Mancuso.

Lewis Coats, with the Sulphur, Louisiana police department, said the alleged kidnapper was also investigated in 2015 for the alleged rape of a 13 or 14-year-old girl. Miles could be en route to Louisiana in a gray 2017 Hyundai Accent with a Texas license plate number reading: JGH9845.
