Bevin: Rep. Dan Johnson Is 'An Embarrassment,' But Won't Call For Resignation

Johnson apparently posted a message on his Facebook page around 5 p.m. EST Wednesday. The alleged victim, who was 17 at the time, told authorities that she was staying in a living area of the Heart of Fire City Church where Johnson was pastor, when Johnson, who had been drinking a lot, approached her, kissed her and fondled her under her clothes.

On Tuesday, Johnson held a news conference in the pulpit of his church, which he began by leading friends and family in singing a portion of the Christmas carol "O Come All Ye Faithful". In the wake of the accusations, Johnson said, "This allegation concerning this lady, this young girl, absolutely has no merit, these are unfounded accusations, totally", according to the Louisville Courier-Journal. Gov. Matt Bevin tweeted a statement Wednesday night, saying his "heart breaks for (Johnson's) family".

"All of us at Louisville Public Media are deeply sad to hear that State Representative Dan Johnson has died, apparently of suicide. He declined requests to talk about our findings".

"It is with great sadness that we have received confirmed reports of the passing of Rep. Dan Johnson this evening. Please keep his family in your prayers during this incredibly hard time", House Republican leaders said in a statement.
