Damishi Sango, the state chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), in Plateau has reportedly been kidnapped alongside his son.
Akans said the kidnappers have not contacted the family or PDP members.
Mapis quoted Sango as telling family members that the five of them were safe.
Meanwhile, the party has, in a statement issued yesterday afternoon, charged the security agents to ensure that the party chairman, who was kidnapped alongside another chieftain of the party, Chief Emmanuel Mangni, his (Sango) son, his driver and orderly, is safely released.
"They were on their way from Jos to Abuja on Wednesday evening when the kidnappers abducted them", he said.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Matthias Tyopev, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said efforts were on to rescue the captives.
"The spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command has told me that the Commissioner there has ordered ordered his men to comb everywhere to rescue them", he said.

The Publicity Secretary of PDP in Plateau State, John Akans, confirmed the incident in an interview with The PUNCH in Jos on Thursday.
"On reaching the vehicle, they found a telephone belonging to his son in the auto".
"The incident happened in Jere, Kaduna State, and is not under my jurisdiction".
"We finished a meeting of the State Working Committee of the Party at about 1:00pm on Wednesday and he left for Abuja in preparation for the PDP convention coming up on Saturday and we spoke with him at about 3:00 pm".
