Rumors surrounding the iPhone X had been swirling for well over a year in advance. The report noted that while LG's goal is to enter Apple's supply chain in full force in 2019, LG may be able to begin producing some OLED displays by the second half of 2018. The "Plus" model is expected to come with a larger 6.5-inch display.
LG Display has been a solid partner of Apple over the last 10 years, providing liquid crystal displays until the USA smartphone maker turned to Samsung Electronics for OLED screens for the iPhone X for the first time.
A local media outlet reported that LG Display signed a OLED supply deal with Apple for iPhone X and that the firm is now setting up production equipment for iPhone X in Paju E6 assembly line. "The 6.1-inch LCD model will likely sport a metal back [like older iPhone handsets] and will come in several colors", the source was quoted as saying. This is hardly surprising, as Apple has been using LG Display-made LCD panels on its iPhones for years. Foxconn has monopolized iPhone X orders this year, while Pegatron makes iPhone 8. iPhone 8 Plus is split between Foxconn and smaller Taiwanese rival Wistron.
All the phones will come with the same "notch" as the recently launched iPhone X, and an identical all-screen look. While the third device would be a more budget-friendly option and will trade the OLED display for a 6.1-inch liquid-crystal display.
Apple is rumored to be planning to release three new iPhones next year, according to a report given to investors by analysts at Nomura, a Japanese financial firm. Kuo, however, stated that all three 2018 models would debut with full-screen, edge-to-edge displays and the TrueDepth camera system that's now featured on the 10th anniversary iPhone.
Both phones have gotten a lot of publicity, as is always the case when Apple puts out a new iPhone.
