TheWrap has also learned that the removal from schedule and resale was not related to the film itself, but rather a question of release strategy.
The movie hasn't been canned entirely, with a May 2018 release now said to be more likely, instead of December 15.
"Gotti" tells the story of flamboyant Mafia boss John Gotti, nicknamed the "Teflon Don" until his 1992 conviction on murder and racketeering charges, who died of throat cancer while in prison in 2002.
"The Life and Death of John Gotti" stars John Travolta in the title role and co-stars Kelly Preston. By contrast, Gotti's producers actually asked the distributor to sell them back the rights to the film, in order to try and pursue a wide theatrical release.
