Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has visited the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where he is meeting with the caretaker national chairman of the party, Ahmed Makarfi, behind closed doors.
While speaking on the circumstances of Atiku's defection to the PDP, Makarfi said the former vice-president never asked for any special concession, nor did the party offer him one before his return to the party.
Atiku who left the All Progressives Congress (APC) about three weeks ago, had collected his membership card at his Ward last week to signify his formal return to the party he left about four years ago.
Ibrahim Waziri, a senior member of Buhari Campaign Organisation, says Atiku's allegation that APC was notorious for undemocratic practices were false.
"Atiku, former Vice-President of the country and successful business mogul have imparted positively to many of his subordinates and, there is no doubt that many of his supporters to reposition PDP for the 2019 general elections in the country".
"Atiku' s reason for dumping the ruling party is an indication that APC has failed to deliver its campaign promises to Nigerians as well as expectations of some of its members".
It would be recalled that, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku who dumped PDP for APC in 2014, returned to PDP on Sunday December 3, 2017.
"Not only me but some serving governors, members of National Assembly and other known party leaders across the country that have to decide their political future elsewhere", he said. Whatever aspirations he or anybody coming to PDP may have, they will be free to pursue them. So are all other PDP men and women are free to pursue whatever political aspirations they may have. "The party will give a level-playing field for party men and women to exercise their right".
He said the Eagle Square, where the event would hold, had been secured. I want to urge aspirants to the various positions to please keep their campaigners away from the convention venue and we believe all campaigns would have stopped by Friday.
"We need to make this announcement to all our party members and well-wishers that the convention is going to be for delegates and we are expecting a little less than 3,000". And we want to appeal to all of them campaigning to desist from doing that.
