The South Carolina Gamecocks are headed to the Outback Bowl where they'll play MI.

USC, then coached by Steve Spurrier, won the previous Outback encounter, 33-28, in a game perhaps remembered best for this viral Jadeveon Clowney hit on Michigan's Vincent Smith.

The Spartans defeated the Wolverines this season and went on to finish with a 9-3 record.

Carolina has accepted an invitation to take part in the 2018 Outback Bowl to face off with MI. "Our players and staff are excited to face an excellent SEC opponent and look forward to the competition on New Year's Day".

The Gamecocks ended their regular season alone in second in the SEC East division, going 5-3 in league play.

Based on how the second-to-last College Football Playoff rankings came out last Tuesday (11/28), the selection committee had it virtually set up so that if teams took care of business, it'd make for an easy selection Sunday.

SC and MI have previously played three times, with the Gamecocks leading the series 2-1. The Gamecocks defeated MI 17-14 in the "Big House" in 1980 before MI returned the favor at Williams-Brice Stadium, defeating SC 34-3 in 1985.

MI began the year ranked No. 11 in the Preseason AP Top 25, but ends the year unranked at 8-4 (5-4 Big 10).
