Florida and coach Jim McElwain parted ways in late October after the Gators were blown out by Georgia. Kelly, the former OR coach who was out of college football this season, is expected to take the UCLA job.
At least Florida, Tennessee and UCLA have made overtures or offers to Kelly, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA Today Sports.
Per Yahoo Sports, Florida is pulling out of the Chip Kelly sweepstakes and the Gators will now focus on UCF coach Scott Frost.
Frost is in his second season at UCF, and now has the Knights undefeated and ranked 15th in the country.
Kelly, meanwhile, is reportedly a distinct possibility to fill the coaching vacancy at UCLA.
According to the same report, Florida higher-ups met with Kelly on Sunday in New Hampshire and remained in contact with him over the subsequent days.
He went 46-7 in four seasons at OR from 2009-2012 before leaving for the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles. While Fisher, who has already gone through multiple spins of the coaching carousel with LSU, has remained steady on his policy of not discussing other jobs, the tension between coach and fan base has coupled with a disappointing season to make a unusual situation in Tallahassee.
