Arsenal star Ozil enhances his remarkable Premier League assist record against Tottenham

After a three-year stint with Real Madrid, Arsenal signed Ozil in 2013 for £42 million.

Arsenal's last chance to recoup cash for the German is in January and it is a situation that also applies to Alexis Sanchez.

But Liverpool's determination to keep the Brazilian and his high price tag means a deal may be tough to finalise.

For Barcelona, Mundo Deportivo believe Ozil fits all the requirements: A world class player, who can play in the Champions League and is available in January.

As a result, Barcelona has explored a "Plan B" and identified Ozil as an alternative.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim that Barcelona have asked about the German and the Gunners have said that £17.7m would secure his services in January as his contract expires in the summer.

The likes of Angel Di Maria, Thomas Lemar, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli are mentioned as played Barcelona have looked at but are unavailable in January.

However, manager Arsene Wenger is still optimistic about convincing Ozil and Sanchez to sign a new deals and the veteran manager expressed his reasons in his most recent post-match interview.

"I can't say much about it".

Despite the fact that Ozil often polarises opinion, due to his laid-back style and languid body language, it appears there will be no shortage of suitors if he does opt to leave Arsenal.

To add to the Ozil rumours to Barcelona, Arsene Wenger admitted on Saturday, after the win over Tottenham, that keeping the German and Alexis Sanchez would be very hard.

'I believe they want to stay but other top clubs are out there, who offer good contracts as well'.
