He's been described as the black sheep of the Middleton family, and the Duchess of Cambridge's uncle Gary Goldsmith has become embroiled in scandal again after facing court over a shocking domestic violence incident with his wife.
Goldsmith is the younger brother of Carole Middleton and attended the weddings of both the Duchess and her sister Pippa.
Gary Goldsmith, 52, used a closed fist to attack Julie-Ann Goldsmith outside their home in Wimpole Street, London, around 1.20am on October 13 this year.
Prosecutor Kate Shilton told the court the couple's taxi driver saw Mrs Goldsmith slap her husband in the face before he retaliated as they got home after a charity event. They are both out, and [the driver] has described having seen Mrs. Goldsmith slapping her husband in the face. He said: "She seems to be unconscious, it does not move". During this time, the uncle of Kate Middleton seemed "panicked" and was " back-and-forth in the house trying to make it fit ".
Gary has pleaded guilty to a drunken attack on his wife Julie-Ann last month.
The court was told that, when the taxi driver challenged Goldsmith over his actions, he then became aggressive towards him.
"He then describes how Mr Goldsmith punches her hard in the face using a left hook".
Charges that are only partly recognized by Gary Goldsmith, who is said to have actually hit his wife, but without having taken " a left hook ".
Ahead of sentencing, which will take place on 21 November, chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot said she was "excluding custody and looking at a community order". What is certain, is that the attorney account to find out how to " protect [Julie-Ann Goldsmith] of this man ".
After he and Luan divorced, he married Julia Leake following a whirlwind romance.
Goldsmith was brought up in a council estate in Hounslow, west London, and had initially worked as an IT operator before becoming an entrepreneur.
