Raiders cornerback and former Buckeye Gareon Conley placed on IR, ending rookie season: Report

This will have to be done with a thinner secondary with rookie cornerback Gareon Conley being placed on season-ending IR on Monday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

General manager Reggie McKenzie told reporters last week the Raiders were "trying to give it some time to calm down and see if (Conley) can play". He has only played in two games after battling shin injuries. "He was feeling better, then he had a setback". Lasco, a second-year pro from Cal, was taken from the field in an ambulance during the first half of Sunday's game in Buffalo.

The Raiders are the first team in National Football League history to fail to record a single interception in the first nine games of the season.

"There's no question we miss him", McKenzie said. We felt really good about him during the offseason until he got kicked and that's the way it is. New Orleans head coach Sean Payton says running back and special-teams player Daniel Lasco needs surgery for a bulging disk in his spine that will end his season but "won't be career-threatening".

Conley's absence is nothing new to the Raiders' struggling secondary, which has to face Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Mexico City this weekend. Amerson's return would help the Raiders, however much that may be, with Oakland sitting just outside the AFC playoff picture.

Oakland also must make trips to first-place Kansas City and Philadelphia, as well as Los Angeles for the season finale against the Chargers as part of a hard closing schedule.

Defensive tackle Darius Latham was reinstated from a four-game suspension as a corresponding move.
