Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has expressed his views on the ongoing controversies and protests against 'Padmavati'.
The entire incident was caught on camera and footage of the aggravated members was shared on ANI's Twitter handle and it saw angry mob members shattering glass windows and counters while abusing and using strong language. Stepping up the protests against the release of the movie, some members of Karni Sena vandalised a theatre in Rajasthan for screening the trailer of the film. He also raised an objection over releasing the trailer of the film.
Meanwhile, senior VHP leader Acharya Dharmendra said a case should be lodged against director Sanjay Leela Bhansali over "Padmavati" and senior Congress leader Rameshwar Dudi demanded a ban on the controversial film. "If they take law in their hands, then they will be punishable under law".
Sati Padmavati, on whose life the movie is based, is revered as goddess in many parts of Rajasthan. The movie would not be allowed to release until it is pre-screened to them, the memorandum read. The Rajput Karni Sena is claiming that Padmavati insults the Rajput community and is a distortion of history, which "hurts their religious sentiments".
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has written to the Election Commission to postpone the release of "Padmavati" in order to avoid collision with the Gujarat Elections, scheduled for December 9 and 14. But the makers of Padmavati said that they can do that only after it is granted a certificate by the censor board. "It is not acceptable", an activist of Karni Sena said. "And it needs to be told now", said Deepika, who plays the title role in Padmavati - Bhansali's professed tribute to the sacrifice, valour and honour of Rajput queen Rani Padmavati.
