In a statement by his spokesperson, Simeon Nwakaudu, the governor said he was on project inspection when he was attacked at Nwanja Junction on Trans-Amadi Road, Port Harcourt.
Security personnel attached to the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, Thursday afternoon, allegedly shot at the convoy of the minister of transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, while the Rivers state governor allegedly watched, Amaechi alleges through his media office.
"Prince Princewill also asked why the attempt by Amaechi, who was driving the auto, to navigate his vehicle out of danger was prevented by two security men from Rivers governor's convoy, who pulled their pistols to shoot him, but when Wike's security men realised that the vehicle that the minister was driving was bullet-proofed, they resorted to hitting the jeep with the butts of their guns and in the process broke the right driving mirror and attempted to break Amaechi's windscreen".
In a statement, the former Rivers governor said although he eventually passed through unhurt, his auto was "vandalised with a broken side mirror". One of the two cars had security men assigned to protect the minister in Port Harcourt.
Tonye Princewill went further to ask, "why did an attempt by Amaechi who was behind the steering to navigate his vehicle out of danger was accosted by two security men from the Governor's convoy who had pulled out their pistol and gun to shoot him". They hit the vehicle, tried to smash the windscreens, windows and broke a side mirror.
It added that the minister eventually passed through after the intervention of the security team on ground to protect him in Port Harcourt.
It also said that if anything happens to the governor or his immediate family and aides, the APC and Amaechi should be held responsible. Wike came out of his auto, and with his security team was going from one vehicle to another, of Amaechi supporters, charging at them, harassing and abusing them. It alleged that Wike's security men were heard loudly insulting Amaechi and calling him derogative names.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service at the State Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt yesterday to mark the "Global Human Settlements Outstanding Contribution Award " by the Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards (SCAHSA) supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Wike said that he resolved to bring the ugly actions at the Court of Appeal to the attention of Nigerians, law professionals and the political community for them to take the necessary steps. The transportation minister hails from Ubima in Ikwerre LGA, while the Rivers governor is an indigene of Rumueprikom in Obio/Akpor council.
