Her father, Wesley Mathews, was arrested Saturday on a charge of abandoning or endangering a child and was released from custody late Sunday after posting $250,000 bail but is required to wear an electronic monitoring device and surrender his passport as part of the conditions of his bond.
Richardson police are still looking for the toddler and have issued an Amber Alert ever since she went missing on Saturday. After looking around for her, he said he then went inside to do laundry and made a decision to wait until morning to continue searching or for her to return on her own.
Wesley Mathews, 37, said when his daughter didn't finish drinking her milk on Saturday, he ordered her to stand outside next to a tree at 3 a.m.as punishment, according to an arrest affidavit.
"We've got a lot of folks that live in that neighborhood who have come forward to us offering up some of the videos they have", said Richardson Police Sgt. Evin Perlich.
Mathews told the police that he checked on Sherin about 3:15 am and she was gone, the affidavit said. "Why was the last sighting at 3 o'clock and the parents not call us until after 8 am, that's the question we want answered as well", Perlich was quoted as saying by Dallas Morning News.
Explaining why Sini, despite having no charges against her, chose to retain an attorney, Starr said that every individual has the right for legal counsel.
Sherin, who has developmental issues and limited verbal communication skills, was adopted two years ago from an orphanage in India.
The 4-year-old daughter of the couple is in the custody of a friend of the Mathews' family.
But investigating officials are skeptical, seized three cars, phones and laptops to find out where little Sherin could be.
Police confirmed that the child was much smaller than other kids her age, and that it was common for her to eat several times each day and night in an effort to put on some additional weight. "The parents are believers in Christ". They loved Sherin very much. "She is distraught", he said. "All she wants is to have her biological daughter and Sherin back".
Mathews reportedly went back to "do laundry" assuming that Sherin might return back home by morning. "And you leave your baby?"
Police officers and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were at the home on Wednesday, and served a search warrant to look for evidence.
