Retailers that have an exterior entrance in malls will be allowed to open early, however, even if the mall itself is closed until 6 a.m. on Black Friday.
After receiving positive feedback last year, the Northpark Mall will be closed on Thanksgiving Day again this year.
CBL Properties, which manages the Fairview Heights mall, made the announcement on Wednesday. Wal-Mart made a similar move in 2011, and Target in 2012. From 2013 through 2015, the malls were open Thanksgiving evening. So did Office Depot, as did now defunct HHGregg.
Lebovitz told CNBC that his company had "such overwhelming support from last year's decision", they felt "validated".
"The support that we received a year ago when we made this decision was overwhelmingly positive", said Lebovitz.
The store will close for the holiday but will reopen at 6:00 a.m. on Black Friday, November 24th. Patrons should check their local center's website for more specific information. Black Friday is consider a day when retailers hypothetically turn from being in the red, or unprofitable, to being profitable, in the black.
