Besides, Google Assistant will soon be gaining functionality for online shopping, now shopping via Google Home and Assistant is only possible on Android TV. Target and Google also will partner to explore and develop future digital experiences focused on Target's signature style categories.
Target has only been available through Google Express in New York City and California before now, so today's announcement marks a major expansion and helps to fill out Google's service in a big way. Google announced today that Target will begin supporting its Google Express shopping service in the contiguous US.
"In the markets where we've offered Google Express, guests tell us they love the ease and convenience of shopping Target through Google. So we're excited to offer this service nationwide in time for the busy holiday season", said Mike McNamara, chief information and digital officer at the Minneapolis-based retailer.
Announced this morning, all of Target is now shop-able via the Google Express application for all USA residents, with exception to Hawaii and Alaska. "So if you're on the go and remember you need a birthday gift for the weekend, you can just say 'Ok Google, buy a kids bomber jacket from Target, '" the company said.
Next year, Target plans to make its REDcard debit and credit cards available as payment options on Google Express, allowing those shoppers to take advantage of the card's five percent discount on orders and free shipping.
Be on the lookout for additional features that bring together the best of Google and Target in the coming year.
Beginning in 2018, guests will have the option to pick up their orders in a Target store, where orders are ready in just two hours. So far Walmart is the largest retailer to offer its products on Google Express. Customers also will have the option to link their Target.com accounts to Google Express, enabling more personalized recommendations and rapid re-order capabilities.
