That is what investigators are trying to figure out. He was like a father to me.
The couple's neice, Karlene Grose, said she was watching the news and saw her aunt and uncle's home on the screen and realized her uncle had been killed by the burglars. Waldiman Thompson's 100-year-old wife, Ethlin Thompson, was also tied up but managed to extract herself and call 911. Waldiman Thompson is now dead.
It happened at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Decatur Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Police are searching for four men.
PIX11's sources say the couple may have been targeted since they were landloards. "They tied him up and tied me up too, '" he said.
Ethlin sustained rope burns on her legs and was treated on the scene, then removed to a local hospital to be monitored, according to police.
The city police department said the wife is in stable condition and does not have serious injuries.
When officers arrived, they said they found the home ransacked, and the husband tied up on the floor and unresponsive. "They're church people. I would see them walking around going to the laundromat. Fun-loving people. Everybody loved them", said the victim's brother, Garfield Pringle.
Police say they are reviewing surveillance video from a nearby deli and it may show the suspects.
