Sorry, Taylor Swift can't come to the phone right now. Why?
Following weeks of climbing up the charts with Taylor Swift at #1, Cardi B has become the first female rapper in almost 20 years to nab the top spot on the Hot 100 chart. However, despite their attempt at keeping the rapper from overtaking Minaj's previous record for 2014's "Anaconda", Cardi B ultimately beat both of the singers' previous records.
Post Malone's new "rockstar (featuring 21 Savage)" moves into the #2 spot on this week's Hot 100.
Her debut hit "Bodak Yellow" has been trending for months and finally sits atop the Billboard charts, rising from the No. 2 spot to No. 1. She's only the fifth female rapper to ever have a number 1 hit. Because I know I'm still bumping The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. "After Hill, Lil" Kim ruled for five weeks in 2001 with Christina Aguilera, Mya, and P!nk on "Lady Marmalade"; Shawnna reigned as featured on Ludacris" "Stand Up, ' which topped the December 6, 2003, chart; and Iggy Azalea's introductory Hot 100 hit, "Fancy, ' featuring Charli XCX, led for seven weeks in 2014". Cardi B has showed nothing but love for Swift, even posting a video of herself singing along to "LWYMMD".
For those of us who have followed Cardi since her journey started in the Bronx, the achievement is momentous, as her story represents the promise of success for so many Bronx Dominicans.
