Honeypreet booked for inciting Panchkula violence

The Haryana police have released a list of over 40 people, who are wanted in connection with the violence that shook Panchkula on August 25, after Sirsa -based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted on two counts of rape of female followers. But, now incarcerated, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh will spend his time in jail growing vegetables, pruning trees - eight hours a day just for Rs 20, reports PTI.

The police are investigating as to how did Honeypreet or "Papa's Angel", as she calls herself, manage to board the chopper that took Ram Rahim to Rohtak Jail on Friday, after his conviction.

The report quoted the DGP saying, "He falls under the category of unskilled labour".

Intelligence sources said that Honeypreet was spotted in Mahendranagar town of Nepal on Sunday in a vehicle bearing Nepalese registration. The self-styled godman, who was convicted of raping two women, is now serving 20-year term in Rohtak's Sunaria jail.

The report says that patrolling has been stepped up along the Indo-Nepal border in Maharajganj and adjoining districts to nab jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief's aide.

On Tuesday, Haryana prison DGP K P Singh had said, "We have given both numbers to the police for verification". The hearing of another murder case of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati against the Dera chief has been slated for September 22. He tills the soil, grows vegetables and waters plants on a 500-yard patch.

A special CBI court had sentenced him to 20 years in jail, 10 years each in two rape cases, on August 28. The prisoner is allowed to talk after police verify the phone numbers. Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who had Z plus security and used to be surrounded by the elite Black Cat commandos, is now accompanied by three life convicts appointed by the jail administration. Also, jail staff persons with impeccable record have been put on duty in and near his barrack.
