A location manager for the Netflix hit series "Narcos" has been found shot dead in central Mexico where he was scouting for locations for the upcoming season of the show.

More broadly, though, Narcos was reportedly set to focus season four on Mexico's infamous Juarez cartel - and the fact that Munoz Portal was killed in that area and found "bullet-riddled" in his auto may speak for itself as far as who's responsible for the violence. Nor confirmation either way had been made public by Netflix at the time of this writing. The infamous Juárez cartel was briefly featured in the most recent season.

"We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family", Netflix said in a statement, Variety reported. His body was found in a compact vehicle with several gun shot wounds hours after leaving for the site.

The area is widely known to be plagued with drug-related killings as it is nearby the border of Hidaglo.

Portal was reportedly heading out to obtain some production photographs. He had previously contributed to films such as Apocalypto, Fast & Furious, Sicario, and Spectre.

Unclear if Portal's death will derail production.

"Given the depopulated area we have no witnesses", spokesman for the State Attorney's office Claudio Barrera said.

"Narcos" mainly films in Colombia, with scenes also having been shot in Panama and the U.S.
