Nathan Coulter-Nile and James Faulkner earned recalls to the Australia One-Day International side for the tour of India in September-October, while Jason Behrendorff, Tim Paine and Dan Christian figured in the Twenty20 International fold when selectors named the squads on Friday (August 18).
All-rounder James Faulkner makes a return to the side after his absence in the Champions Trophy squad along with pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile. However, Faulkner's huge experience in the subcontinent and his consistent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL), helped him earn a place the ODI and T20 squads.
Nathan Coulter-Nile returns to both squads following his recent recovery from a back injury, with James Faulkner receiving a recall along with newcomer to the short format, Hilton Cartwright.
Hons told media, "Nathan brings raw pace to the side with good variation". "It is great to see him back from injury and we are hopeful he will have a big impact in this series", selector Trevor Hohns said.
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc along with all rounder Moises Henriques, Chris Lynn, John Hastings and James Pattinson will miss Australia's limited-overs and Twenty20 tours of India starting next month. Australia have opted to rest Mitchell Starc for the series, as he is still rehabilitating from a foot injury.
"We believe the panel has selected a strong squad to face the tough Indian conditions that has the right mix of pace and spin", Hohns said.
Cummins and Hazlewood will join captain Steve Smith, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar and Hilton Cartwright in travelling from Bangladesh to India to link up with Australia's one-day squad.
T20 squad: S Smith (captain), D Warner, J Behrendorff, D Christian, N Coulter-Nile, P Cummins, A Finch, T Head, M Henriques, G Maxwell, T Paine, K Richardson, A Zampa. Jason [Behrendorff] has been a stand-out performer for the Scorchers for a number of seasons and deserves his chance at this level.
"Dan is a very experienced allrounder who can be a very risky batsman".
Chennai, Bengaluru, Nagpur, Indore and Kolkata are scheduled to host the five-match ODI series while Hyderabad, Ranchi and Guwahati will be venues for the T20s.
