Police in a statement said that the three Hizb terrorists were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Awneera village of Zainapora Shopian. "The fire was retaliated, triggering an encounter", the official said. The encounter, which broke out since late last night, also led to the martyrdom of two soldiers. The other two militants killed in the gunfight are Umar Majeed of Kulgam and Irfan-ul-Haq of Shopian. When the security forces were trying to comb the area, the terrorists opened fire and attacked the security forces. News agency ANI quoted the state's senior superintendent of police as saying that one militant had been killed. One Kevyt Konekivaan (KK) series rifle, reportedly used by Itoo, and two AK series rifles were recovered from the encounter scene. He said in the initial gunfight five soldiers, including an officer, sustained injuries and were shifted to Army 15 core hospital in Badamibagh Srinagar. Irate crowds clashed with the security forces at several places in the area during and after the encounter. Over a dozen civilians were injured as the security forces fired live ammunition to quell the stone-pelting mobs. In wake of the encounter, authorities have blocked internet services in Shopian district and other sensitive parts of south Kashmir. The slain Armymen have been identified as Tamil Nadu's Ilayaraja P, and Gawai Sumedh Waman from Maharashtra.
