Neville sends 'horrendous' message to Chelsea about new Man United signing

Romelu Lukaku

GETTYRomelu Lukaku has been backed to score 20-plus goals for Manchester United

Matic believes the 24-year-old will have had his confidence boosted by his goal and expects him to hit the ground running when the Premier League begins this weekend. If Nathaniel Chalobah or Ruben Loftus-Cheek were still there they could get rid of Matic and play a younger kid.

'My initial analysis from January and progressing through other months I was thinking of four players but I am not a hard person to work with, even if looks different or you want to make it look so.

Madrid dominated proceedings against United for the large part, but Mourinho's men can take plenty of positives away from the game: Fellaini's influence, Romelu Lukaku scoring, Matic looking right at home in midfield and the fact that, despite being outclassed, they should have taken the game to extra time.

Neville feels that the sale of Matic to United could end up costing Chelsea in their quest to retain the title.

"Chelsea have broken up that partnership and strengthened their rivals". All of a sudden United are in the driving seat ahead of Chelsea to win the Premier League. Is Tiemoue Bakayoko a similar type of player to Matic?

Jose Mourinho was in charge for the latter campaign and, despite securing Europa League, EFL Cup and Community Shield glory, along with Champions League qualification, knows they have to do better in the league.

Neville had his say on the matter at the Premier League launch in London today. He was good in some games, inexperienced in others.

"He did well as Chelsea won the league past year, but he didn't go back to the level of 2014/15 and Cesc Fabregas was playing a lot more in the second half of last season".

Matic was one of Manchester United's best players in an otherwise disappointing 2-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup.
