On Friday, President Donald Trump urged North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un not to take any action against the U.S., its territories including Guam or its allies, warning he would regret such a move - and "regret it fast". The Republican billionaire dismissed any criticism of his "fire and fury" warning of Tuesday, citing threats made by the regime of Kim Jong-Un to both Washington and its allies.
Trump clarified that statement Friday afternoon during his working vacation in New Jersey.
On "Fox & Friends" this morning, Judge Jeanine Pirro said she likes Trump's strong rhetoric, since he's dealing with a "bully" and a "lunatic" in the North Korean dictator.
"This man won't get away with what he is doing", he said.
In response to that fire and fury threat, North Korea said its military is preparing to conduct a test firing of four missiles that would fly over Japan and land in waters near the USA territory of Guam.
The exercises are an annual event, but come as Pyongyang says it is preparing to fire four Hwasong-12 missiles towards the tiny island and major military hub of Guam.
Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo has emphasized that the threat level for the island has not changed and remains normal. He retweeted two "Fox & Friends" tweets directed at lawmakers of his own party, one using a nuclear war metaphor.
"Maybe it wasn't tough enough", he said.
The presidents of the two countries discussed Pyongyang over a phone call, and Jinping asserted Beijing was ready to work with the U.S.to resolve the issue, Chinese state-run Global Times reported Saturday. North Korea dismissed it as "nonsense".
"I would like to de-nuke the world", he said.
Trump also said that his critics only complained about his tough rhetoric on North Korea "because it's me".
Secretary of Defense James Mattis insists that while the military is prepared, he's still optimistic about a peaceful resolution, and Trump said he was optimistic China would provide further help in resolving the crisis. That's a statement. He's not going to go around threatening Guam, and he's not gonna threaten the United States, and he's not gonna threaten Japan.
Trump also told China to step up and do more to pressure North Korea into ending its nuclear weapons program.
Some see Trump waging a game of chicken against North Korea, assuming that Kim will back down if his nation's existence is threatened by American military might.
If it is designated as such, missile interception and protection of USA military vessels will be allowed.
"While standing by 24 hours in preparation for a launch, we are calling on our residents to be on alert in case we issue emergency information", Makoto Ebuchi added.
