Alvaro Morata may not have been the first forward they were looking at, yet his £70 million signing was a delight to fans, while new defender Antonio Rudiger is familiar with Conte's system at Juventus.

But Burnley held on to claim a first win at Stamford Bridge since 1971, and leave Conte lamenting the early dismissal of Cahill for putting his side on the backfoot.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche admits this game is a very tough one for his side to begin the season with, but has reminded everyone that the Clarets will be judged on their season as a whole as opposed to exclusively on this fixture at Stamford Bridge.

It was indeed a splendid and one-sided first half for the visitors, who simply outplayed the 10-man reigning champions.

"For me the striker is a really important role and it is very important to understand the position I want in the game and it is more hard to adapt than other roles".

The former Blues striker told the Daily Mail: "Conte has said that he wants to avoid a "Mourinho season".

Burnley didn't do too well on Premier League travels last term, losing 14 of 19 fixtures, but they did keep three clean sheets in last five of those games. "It was a pity because our fight in the second half was very good", Conte said. Victor Moses is suspended after being sent off in last years FA Cup final, so the Italian may have to hand new boy Rudiger a start in the back three, with Cesar Azpilicueta moving over to the right-wing back position.

"Behind the scenes he'll be saying the same message, but in a different way: 'This is going to be difficult and this is how we overcome that, by working hard and by doing the extra bits even more than we did previous year'".

Lampard, who scored 147 times for the Blues in the top flight, feels Conte is the best possible man in charge of the club where he spent 13 hugely successful seasons.

"I repeat: it is important for us to be concentrated on our work, to be focused every day in training and to try to work in our best way".

Chelsea down to 9 men. "It's not easy. It's very important to try to find the right solution, to try to improve the squad, to improve the quality before (we) start the season".

"Today big decisions changed the outcome, quite obviously", the Burnley manager said. Our performances against the big teams were pretty good past year, barring Chelsea away. We have all seen how much of a difference the Benglian makes for Chelsea, with his trickery and pace, both up front, and on the wings.
