He said, "We wanted to make it a unity convention, hence we made a decision to bring so many people to serve on this committee".
The committee was put in place by the party's national convention held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in 2016.
Meanwhile, the party is under intense pressure to suspend some of its members believed to be sabotaging its peace efforts, even as it holds its non-elective convention, which narrowly survived being stopped by court, which main agenda is the task of extending the tenure of the caretaker committee for at least 90 days.
"I have observed the Constitution of PDP and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and wish to state as follows: Senator Ahmed Markarfi's Caretaker Committee should be given at most another three months to allow new executives and other organs of the party to be elected to enable the Party move on".
Describing the convention as a unity gathering of the PDP family, he said the global community was already in Abuja to monitor the exercise. Okowa stated this yesterday while inspecting the Eagles Square, venue for the convention, assuring party members that every necessary arrangements have been taken care of.
He said: "We have come this far through a tortuous journey".
He said, "It will be a carnival-like convention, the like of which we have never seen before".
"So, the point I want to make is that I remain in PDP and I will work hard with other faithful members to bring it back". God took us out of a major crisis that nearly killed the party.
Senator Makarfi, however, assured party faithful that the issues would not hinder the success of the PDP convention.
In another development, former Senate President, Senator David Mark has called on the PDP to avoid mistakes in Saturday's convention, and harped on the need for a hitch free convention.
"Those who are decamping from PDP to APC are fair weather friends of the Party".
He appealed to the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa-led Convention Committee to ensure the conduct of a convention that would unite the party and provide a sense of belonging to its members.
Mark is one of the party's leaders, who remained steadfast in their commitment to its survival while the challenge lasted.
