Two brand new game modes are coming to Overwatch's Arcade mode, and they're about as classic as you can imagine-Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.
Although Overwatch has arguably been one of the most popular shooters since its release in 2016 - it managed to become Blizzard's fastest growing franchise, for instance - the title has yet to officially receive the granddaddy of all FPS modes: Deathmatch. Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are all about slaying and killing, and the two modes are slightly different from one another.
Finishing in the top half of a free-for-all Deathmatch will be enough to earn you credit towards weekly Arcade box unlocks, though obviously finishing top is most desirable. Mercy's resurrect, for instance, will strip points from the other team's kill count. First is Deathmatch, an eight-person free-for-all game where the objective is to reach 20 kills first.
It seems likely that this new build will take a while to test and will likely launch sometime after the end of the Overwatch Summer Games. Both of the new modes are joining the Public Test Realm later today, August 10, and will be almost identical to the Deathmatch modes you may have experienced in other first-person shooters. The first team to 30 points wins!
The upcoming update will also include Château Guillard, a Deathmatch map located near Annecy in southeastern France. "For hundreds of years, it was the estate of the influential Guillard family, until it gradually fell into disrepair after the family's power waned in the decades after the Revolution", the official map description reads.
Deathmatch is now live in PTR so if you've got a hankering to try it out, check on how to participate by visiting the Overwatch site.
