Per the Daily Mirror's David McDonnell and Alex Richards, the Ivory Coast worldwide was sent off in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League against Celta Vigo. The defender was brought in last season and has performed exceptionally well under Jose Mourinho's Red Devils.

The Ivory Coast worldwide was dismissed after putting a hand into John Guidetti's face, with Celta defender Facundo Roncaglia also dismissed for raising his hand to the United centre-back in retaliation.

Bailly missed his team's 2-0 win over Ajax in the Europa League final when serving the first game of the ban.

His absence will come as a significant blow for United, who were also issued with a warning from Uefa for a late kick-off in the semi-final.

UEFA announce that they have handed a three-match ban to Manchester United's Eric Bailly after his dismissal in the Europa League semi-final against Celta Vigo. The decision to extend the ban, though, hurts United by removing his ability to influence the upcoming contest against Real Madrid - which certainly isn't how either Bailly or the English side wanted to kick off their year.
