Evacuations ordered in Lodgepole Complex Fire

Smoke from Mont. fires engulfs Northern Hills

Lodgepole Fire produces large amount of smoke in eastern Montana

On Friday evening, Residents are being ordered to evacuate the entire area north of Highway 200 from the Petroleum County Line and West of Edwards Road due to the threat from the Lodgepole Complex.

A fire 16 miles north of the eastern Montana town of Mosby grew by 30,000 acres Thursday night.

There are three other fires in Garfield County that are being combined with the Bridge Coulee into the Lodgepole Complex which are estimated to cover almost 48,000 acres.

There are now 300 volunteers on the fire including landowners in the area and in the county.

The Barker Fire, 20 miles north of Sand Springs, Mont.is estimated at 12,000 acres as of Friday afternoon.

Highway 200 is closed from Winnet Montana to Jordan Montana and Miller is asking for travelers to find other routes and only travel in that direction if you absolutely have to.

The Square Butte Fire 19 miles north of Sand Springs, Mont., is 808 acres.

A forecast of continued hot, dry weather and southerly winds could result in another day of extreme fire behavior on Sunday.

The Western Montana Type 2 Incident Management Team will be assuming command of the fires.
