The suspect, Salim Mohammed Khan alias Abu Amaar alias Arif, who is a resident of Mandipur in Fatehpur district, was arrested in a joint operation of Anti-Terrorist Squads (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra Police at the Mumbai airport after he was deported from the United Arab Emirates.

Salim Mukim Khan alias Abu Amaar alias Arif, a native of Hathgaon in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, was nabbed in a joint operation by anti-terrorism squads of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh police when he arrived at the worldwide airport from the UAE, he said.

The Maharashtra ATS said that as part of its monitoring of suspicious persons arriving from certain specific foreign destinations, they zeroed in on Salim Mohammed Khan on Monday.

Investigators said that based on the lookout notice, Khan was detained at Mumbai Airport. After the gravity of the situation was gauged they contacted their Uttar Pradesh counterparts. Khan sent finances to Aftab, according to the investigators. The Indian media claimed that Saleem Khan had received training at "a terrorist camp in Muzaffarabad".

When Ali was arrested from Faizabad for spying on military installations, he had revealed during his interrogation that it was Salim who used to wire money to him.

Salim's interrogators also suspect of him being involved in a terrorist attack on CRPF camp in Rampur district of UP which left eight personnel killed and many injured on December 31, 2007. Khan's arrest has been confirmed by Anand Kumar, UP ADG (Law and Order). The UP ATS was informed, which sent a team to Mumbai for further investigations.

Security and intelligence forces in Uttar Pradesh are on high alert after a substantial amount of PETN explosive was recovered from inside the state assembly.
