Pitting allegations of game fixing in 2011 world cup, wherein Sri Lanka was defeated by India in the final match, veteran Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga demanded probe in the matter.
"I am surprised by Arjuna Ranatunga's allegations", Gambhir told PTI.
"I was on the panel of commentators during this World Cup final, and I was really disappointed with Sri Lanka's performance", Ranatunga continued on the 2011 World Cup final, which India won by six wickets.
"I can not reveal what happened on that day, but I would someday reveal the truth. There must be an inquiry", said Ranatunga.
Ranatunga, who led Sri Lanka to glory in ICC Cricket World Cup 1996, said that Sports Ministry of Sports of Sri Lanka should order an inquiry into what happened to Sri Lanka team during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 final.
However, after that the India side strengthened its position thanks to some poor fielding and bowling performance by the Sri Lankan side.
And Nehra also rubbished the comments made by Ranatunga.
The allegations didn't sit well with Indian cricketers, as they call for Sri Lanka's former captain to back his allegations with proof.
"Sangakkara wants an inquiry into the tour of Pakistan then they should have one", he said.
"I was on the panel of commentators during this World Cup final, and I was really disappointed with Sri Lanka's performance.I can not reveal what happened on that day, but I would someday reveal the truth". There is no end to these kinds of statements.
Ashish Nehra, another member of India's 2011 World Cup team, said that one should not pay much attention to this kind of statements. But yes, it is disappointing when someone of his stature says something like this, " Nehra said in an interview.
Ranatunga, who was on commentary duty during the World Cup final which was hosted in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium, has taken the war of words with Sangakkara to a different level.
