Samsung's Bixby Could Launch In The US On July 18th

A recent report is claiming that Samsung is planning to release its very own news app that will be called News Today.

The app is also said to include Bixby support, which would allow users to control the app or play a particular podcast using voice commands. It would have to contend with traditional news delivery apps, more niche apps for individual categories or news websites, and dedicated podcast apps.

When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S8 series, it placed great focus on Bixby, the virtual assistant that does more than just answer your questions.

Apart from Samsung, local search giant Naver launched its AI assistant app Clova in May and Kakao also plans to launch AI-based smart speakers in the third quarter of this year.

Samsung Bixby could finally be finding its voice next week, if a leak on Reddit is anything to go by.

Samsung is one of the biggest Android smartphone manufacturers in the world. It remains unclear whether it would replace or supplement the existing Flipboard/UPDAY apps that ship as part of the news section on most Samsung devices.

According to details posted on Reddit, Bixby could be launching in the United States next Tuesday the 18th of July, this has not been confirmed by Samsung as yet.

As this is Reddit, we do have to take the news with a pinch of salt, but given that in the comments users are saying that on Korean S8's (which already have Bixby voice in Korean) there is now an option to select a female American voice, we think it's quite likely to be true. Only the software is different from the predecessor and that's where this new Samsung Bixby loads in.

Samsung rumored to be working on its own news app that's called News Today.
