You Can No Longer Remap the Bixby Button on the T-Mobile Galaxy S8

Samsung blocks Bixby remapping apps on T-Mobile Galaxy S8 and S8+

For the unaware, you could change the functionality of Bixby button from launching the Bixby to any other function using a third party app.

In recent update that consists of the June security update to the phone, it seems that Samsung has managed to successfully block such apps from remapping Bixby's hardware button.

Interestingly, the remap function was recently broken after an update was released. Now and unfortunately only T-Mobile users are facing this issue, other variants that have received June security patch have not complained about any such behavior.

Samsung's infamous Bixby button on the Galaxy S8 is about to get locked down. However, if you're on T-Mobile, these apps shouldn't be able to do what they were meant to do any longer. The biggest contribution was to remap the button for the Google Assistant that could have acted as a proxy assistant on the device. This comes after the roller coaster that was the month of April when it was originally discovered the button could be remapped, then couldn't, and then could again. Defending itself, Samsung says that such third-party apps are security exploits waiting to take form.

We're not surprised this happened but only T-Mobile users are affected. It's possible that Samsung could be experimenting these upcoming restrictions on the T-Mobile model before it makes its way to other models, however, that's just a speculation on our part. Now, it does not even want the users to use the dedicated button via third-party apps. Share your views in the comment section below.
