The body of a University of SC student who went missing a couple of days ago in South America has been found.
A release says Seth Thomas, who was a second year medical student, was hiking in Peru when he went missing.
A spokesperson from the University of SC says Seth Thomas is a second-year medical student who went to Peru to work with a non-profit organization. Early investigation findings suggest that Thomas died in a hiking accident.
Thomas, 24, of SC, went missing on Friday, June 23 near the city of Cusco, Peru.
The U.S. Embassy in Peru is assisted in the search efforts.
He was on a short-term medical mission in Peru where he was working with a non-profit to improve women's health.
Mountain rescue crews began searching for Thomas after he did not return eight hours after he had left. "He is working in a clinical program through Augusta University", Hickman said in a statement.
