China invites Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner to visit

The Latest on President Donald Trump's meeting with technology CEOs (all times local): 6 a.m. Technology CEOS are expected at the White House Monday for an event focused on modernizing government.

The meeting also included Vice President Mike Pence, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser.

"Together we will unleash the creativity of the private sector to provide citizen services in a way that has never happened before", Kushner said. While it was COO Sheryl Sandberg, rather than Mark Zuckerberg, who represented the company at December's meeting with Trump, the social network sent no representatives to yesterday's summit. Bezos said it was "impossible to overstate" artificial intelligence and its future importance.

During his election campaign, Trump had little support from Silicon Valley, with most leading tech company executives distancing themselves from the Republican candidate. Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord was also widely criticized by tech executives, with some withdrawing from advisory positions as a result.

Forrester predicts that United States spending on technology will fall 0.1% in 2017 and 0.6% in 2018 as Trump grapples with federal spending. Apple CEO Tim Cook and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos were among those attending an afternoon of working groups on technology issues.
