And one of his most beloved movie roles is about to be revisited in this year's Jumanji sequel.
Black went on to explain the one major difference between the original "Jumanji" and the sequel "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle". They discover what he built during his time there, and all the things he left behind.
He said: "We're exploring this jungle and trying to conquer the game; it's life or death". To beat the game and return to the real world, they'll have to go on the most unsafe adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves - or they'll be stuck in the game forever...
"In this one we actually travel with the characters into the jungle and it's gorgeous and treacherous and exciting", Black told Reuters.
"You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of "Alan Parrish" will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanji in an earnest and cool way", he wrote. In an Instagram post, Johnson said that Jumanji 2 would not exactly be a reboot of the original 1995 but a "continuation of the awesome Jumanji story". Jack Black recently talked to The Hollywood Reporter about the sequel and the tribute to Robin Williams within the movie.
Jonas was a late addition to the cast and his character is yet to be revealed.
"(In the original) you never got to see the inside world (of the game)", he said. Finishing the game actually reversed the damage done by Jumanji in the film's fictional town of Brantford, New Hampshire. "As a producer on this movie and someone who loves the original, you have my word we'll honor the legend of "Alan Parrish" and properly introduce a whole new generation to the fun and insane JUMANJI universe that so many of us loved and grew up on". Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will be led by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, all taking the reins from the late, great Robin Williams.
