Sixers get No. 1 pick from Celtics

While this would normally be a very big disappointment for a team, much of this was actually done purposefully as the 76ers have acquired high draft picks and now have a roster loaded with young talent. "Once Boston got No. 1, immediately there was a discussion that talked about some of the interest we had in No. 1". The Sixers used the No. 1 pick past year on Ben Simmons, who missed the entire season because of a foot injury. If it is not, the Celtics will instead receive either Sacramento's or Philadelphia's first round pick in 2019, whichever is more favorable.

California guard Jabari Bird, who worked out for the Sixers on Monday, thinks Fultz will standout at the next level.

Less than two weeks removed from the NBA finals, the association is already grabbing headlines as it gears up for the offseason. However, if either of those 2019 picks result in the first overall selection, Boston will instead receive the other first round pick. While this seems like a blockbuster move, which it is, I think it's just the first domino to fall in what is going to be an exciting offseason in the National Basketball Association. Ainge said it was "possible" that Boston could make another deal before the draft, but described the swap as "a jump-start" for the Celtics.

"We are very pleased with the outcome of this trade, which puts us in the enviable position of selecting first overall in consecutive draft years", Philadelphia president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo said.

While the 76ers appear to be targeting Fultz, the Celtics are rumored to be looking to trade down to draft forward Josh Jackson. "They have a lot of future assets and we're gonna get a player that we like in addition to some further assets". Boston's additional compensation, the future first-rounder, necessitated more of an explanation.

"I've been talking to Mike Zarren about this Lakers pick for about a year and a half it seems". 1 and 3 picks in Thursday night's NBA Draft.

Philadelphia fans and media in favor of the trade say Fultz would mesh well with Simmons. The Sixers had pursued the trade with the Celtics for the No. 1 pick since the draft lottery.

Coverage for the National Basketball Association draft begins at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday on ESPN, with the Sixers set to pick first for the second year in a row. During his work at the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Season 2016-17, he was able to garner an average of 23.2 points, 5.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Fultz, barring something shocking, will join a core in Philadelphia that includes Simmons, Jahlil Okafor and 2017 Rookie of the Year finalists Joel Embiid and Dario Saric. Fultz led the Pac-12 in scoring and finished No. 6 among all Division I players, and was the top freshman scorer in the country.
