Celtics to trade the number one draft pick to 76ers

Regardless of what moves they eventually decide to make, the trade between Boston and Philly will certainly solidify a long-standing rivalry to return back to its competitive days.

The blockbuster trade between the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers for the first pick in the NBA Draft is now official. Inside the treasure chest is next year's Nets top pick (of course), along with six other first-rounders in the next three drafts.

They took Ben Simmons No. 1 overall, but he hasn't played one minute since breaking a bone in his foot in training camp before last season.

"We're thrilled to be able to select what we expect be an impact player with the third pick in this year's very talented draft class, while also adding a highly valuable future asset as we continue to build towards Banner 18", said Ainge. "Thursday night will see us take another significant step toward building a successful and sustainable basketball program".

The Philadelphia 76ers thrilled their fans and left some suspense surrounding Thursday's National Basketball Association draft.

Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 25 games during his lone college season at Washington, excelling on a team that finished 9-22.

The Boston Celtics shocked the National Basketball Association by trading away the first overall pick, and giving up their opportunity to take the supposed generational talent Markelle Fultz.

The Celtics are expected to be very much a part of the conversation of moving George, but they might be hampered by his infatuation with the Los Angeles Lakers. That's the most important takeaway of the Sixers' trade with the Boston Celtics, which was officially confirmed Monday afternoon.

"Even before the lottery, we have been evaluating these kids for the last few years, and we felt that they were all close", he said of the talent level between Fultz, Ball, Jackson and Tatum. "We're getting the player we want".

They had to reach agreement on a swap with the team who had the first overall, the Boston Celtics. However, if either of those 2019 picks result in the first overall selection, Boston will instead receive the other first-round pick. When giving up multiple picks, the Sixers had better be sure he's the right player for this franchise because this is a mistake that will be tough to correct.

California guard Jabari Bird raved about Pac-12 rival Fultz after the Sixers' Monday predraft workout with the Sixers in a group that featured Kansas guard Frank Mason III and Duke forward Amile Jefferson, a Philadelphia native. There are probably at least five different players that Ainge could realistically select, and you cannot ignore how they are picking and choosing which players to work out. "We came to a conclusion it was the right situation and the right point in the deal progression to make a deal, and we did".
