Cell Phone Video Emerges Of The Congressional Baseball Practice Shooting In Alexandria

A top House Republican, Steve Scalise of Louisiana, was shot and wounded by a rifle-wielding gunman Wednesday at a congressional baseball practice just outside of Washington.

US President Donald Trump said the gunman shooting on Wednesday morning at a congressional baseball practice field in Virginia was dead from serious injuries.

The gunman was identified by a senior U.S. official as James Hodgkinson from the St. Louis suburb of Belleville, Illinois.

Praying for Steve Scalise and all hurt in the outrageous attack this morning in Alexandria. However, it is not clear if he will have a second surgery.

Williams says Flake first used his belt in the dugout to stop the bleeding of a leg wound sustained by his staff member, Zachary Barth, who Flake said "ran on a bad leg all the way across the field into the dugout".

Of the other two victims, lobbyist Matt Mika was in critical condition after being shot multiple times.

"Prior to entering surgery, the Whip was in good spirits and spoke to his wife by phone", his office said in a statement.

Ryan praised officers Bailey and Griner for their "tremendous bravery" calling the Capitol Police "our brothers and sisters in the line of fire".

There were 20 House members and two senators present, and the shooting lasted about 10 minutes, said Representative Joe Barton, the Republican team's manager.

Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., described what he said was a "very strange" encounter with a man shortly before the shooting who might have been the shooter.

Filous said she saw the shooter hit a uniformed law enforcement officer, who she said later was evacuated by helicopter. So when Hodgkinson, who would die later in custody, started shooting, the police started shooting back.

There were other Republicans on this field a week before summer officially begins, in Washington, D.C., and everywhere else, all of them getting ready for an annual charity baseball game scheduled for the next night at Nationals Park, Republicans in Congress against the Democrats. Dave Reichert (R-Wash.), a former sheriff, briefed House Republicans on safety measures for district offices amid health care protests.

The FBI said it had recovered and was attempting to trace two weapons, a rifle and a handgun, and was actively investigating Hodgkinson's "associates, whereabouts, social media impressions, and potential motivations". "The security detail saved a lot of lives because they attacked the shooter".

"My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families of the shooting at baseball practice this morning", he said.

Brooks estimated 50 to 100 shots were fired.

Republican U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta said he has received more threats this year than in the past, including some that required a referral to Capitol Police.

All of the SC lawmakers who took to Twitter in the shooting's aftermath asked for prayers for those affected, while also thanking law enforcement.
