Pyongyang also now has four Americans detained including Kim Dong-chul, a 62-year-old Korean-American, and Otto Warmbier, a USA college student.

North Korea earlier announced it was expecting another visit from Rodman on Tuesday in what would be his first to the country since President Donald Trump took office.

The North and the South have been divided since Korea's liberation from the Japanese at the end of World War II. However, Fox News, citing a senior Trump administration official, reported that Rodman was traveling to North Korea as a "private citizen".

The Rodman link appears to have already sent PotCoin soaring: the currency's value has jumped more than 60% since Monday to around 17 USA cents, according to industry website They said it was also likely he had passed on useful intelligence information to the contact.

North Korea warned Saturday that it was "not too far away" from testing such a missile.

Wearing sunglasses and a black T-shirt advertising a marijuana cybercurrency, Rodman passed through immigration at Beijing airport, from where he is expected to fly to Pyongyang, the North Korean capital.

"I sang 'Happy Birthday, ' and people tripped out in America", Rodman said at the time. Bae was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for unspecified anti-state crimes.

CNN reported that former National Basketball Association star Dennis Rodman will launch another visit to North Korea on Tuesday. The trip quickly turned into a debacle, with sponsors dropping some of the players, who went on CNN to try to explain why they were there. The trip was captured in the documentary "Big Bang in Pyongyang". One source with inside knowledge of Rodman's previous trips told TIME the visits consisted of "one long party of boozing".

On Feb. 9, Kim met for about two hours at a hotel with an American male who Malaysian authorities believe is closely associated with a USA intelligence agency. Rodman said on Twitter as he arrived.

Rodman's expected visit to Pyongyang would be the first under Trump, a man with whom he has a personal relationship.

Rodman was a cast member on two seasons of Mr Trump's Celebrity Apprentice. But Trump fired Rodman for spelling his wife Melania's name wrong.

Malaysian investigative officials said it was likely that Kim had passed on useful intelligence information to his USA contact.
