Golden State Warriors beat Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120 to win National Basketball Association title

Warriors superstar Kevin Durant, who at the end of last season left Oklahoma City for the Bay Area in free agency, scored 39 points in the game-five win to claim the Bill Russell Finals MVP award.

Golden State forward Draymond Green and guard Stephen Curry celebrated during the second half of today's game.

"Our perspective, being blessed to play on this stage three years in a row, it's for these fans, for our organisation, for these families". To be back here and bring gold Larry (O'Brien trophy) back home, I'm just excited to be a part of this group and accomplish something special.

James was the best player on the court in the 2017 Finals, but the four-time league MVP is now just 3-5 over his career in the championship series.

NOTES: The Warriors'.941 winning percentage in the playoffs (16-1) bettered the previous mark of.938 established by the 2001 Los Angeles Lakers, who went 15-1.

Kevin Durant won the 2017 NBA Championship as a member of the Golden State Warriors on Monday night.

"You can't stop the guy", Durant said. I just wanted to put it all out there.

James seemed to be at peace with the fate of this Cavs team since their narrow Game 3 loss to the Warriors last week, which put them in an unrecoverable 0-3 hole in the best-of-seven series.

"I left everything on the floor every game", James said after averaging a triple-double in his eighth Finals.

Curry added 34 and Andre Iguodala was a force off the bench, scoring 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting.

Perhaps that's the motivation the team needed-the sound of their hometown crowd in their ears-as they fought to outlive last year's great defeat, and win the National Basketball Association championship for the second time in three years under head coach Steve Kerr.

"I had a letdown previous year", Green said. The Warriors also led that series, 3-1, and found themselves one minute away from being known as the greatest team of all time after winning a record 73 games in the regular season, something that no team had ever done.

"I'll talk to all my teammates, look them in the eye and tell them that I'm proud of them because it was an unbelievable season", Irving said.

The Warriors kept a 71-60 half-time lead but the Cavaliers trimmed the deficit in the third quarter, Smith sinking a three-pointer to pull Cleveland within 98-93 entering the fourth quarter.
