Apple offers four standard configurations of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and two of the 15-inch MacBook Pro. Now, though, you can configure the tiny MacBook all the way up to 16GB of RAM and a zippy Core i7 CPU running with a turbo boost up to 3.6 GHz.
On the plus side, the smaller Pro is now thinner, at 14.9mm, and lighter than the current model MacBook Air.
The new MacBook, with the slightly upgraded keyboard, is on the left (or is it right?). Content and apps look good and sound good on the MacBook.
Enjoy great performance from seventh-generation Intel Core processors. You can buy a refurbished 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar starting at $1,699.
My conclusion? The latest MacBook is a worthy update to an excellent ultraportable laptop, and now it has far more versatility - if you're willing to pay nearly $500 more (for both the CPU and memory upgrade).
I had time to run a few benchmarks on the iMac; first, Geekbench 4.0 reported that the Core i5 processor in the iMac scored 4845 in the single-core test, and 14098 in the multi-core one. The MacBook Pro may be the star of the show this fall.
We passed on an upgrade opportunity in 2016 because last year's new models simply didn't do enough new tricks to justify the spend.
Second-generation butterfly keyboard switches are now included on the MacBook's keyboard. True to its name, if you're a digital arts professional (or prosumer) who will take advantage of the extra screen room and more vibrant colors, then the MacBook Pro is an easy choice. The Touch Bar is nice, but not essential or revolutionary, and there's also a model that comes without it. The key action is extremely shallow, and it feels far different compared to typing on a full-sized desktop or laptop keyboard, so you'll want to try it out in your local Apple Store.
Nearly lost in the landslide of product announcements at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference keynote was the reveal the MacBook Pro received an important update: The new laptops have the same design as the previous version, but the laptops feature new processors that should provide a speed boost. Having the extra port is vitally important when you're using an external device like a USB-C SSD and the charger simultaneously. The graphics are also said to be up to three times faster, with AMD Radeon 500 series chips in all of the 4K and 5K models.
Apple iMac Pro personal computer comes with the new Radeon Pro Vega GPU, the most advanced graphics ever in a Mac.
The $1,299 price point is attractive to power users, as that is the point where you'll start to pay for premium features like all-aluminum clamshells, and higher-than-full-HD screens, as well as more memory, storage, and power than budget and midrange laptops. Some might still find the MacBook a tad expensive for what it has to offer, especially considering that comparable Windows notebooks with similar specs are more affordable, but Apple has always had a loyal fan base.
