Arsenal fans overjoyed with FA Cup success over Chelsea

The Frenchman's future remains unclear, but it was a flawless way to defy his critics after a tough season, writes Nick Wright. "We go home with a bad taste because of what has happened but for sure we would rather win the Premier League than the FA Cup". "You can not get two tougher opponents, but we produced two outstanding performances", the Arsenal manager said.

It came against all odds.

Despite his disappointment at missing out on the Double, Conte said Chelsea's feat of winning the Premier League with a record 30 wins meant it was still a season to savour.

Wenger had major selection issues with Laurent Koscielny suspended and both Shkodran Mustafi and Gabriel injured, so centre-back Per Mertesacker was given his first start of the season.

Aaron Ramsey called on Arsene Wenger to extend his Arsenal reign after the Welsh midfielder fired his manager into the FA Cup record books.

There was a clear handball by Alexis Sanchez before he scored Arsenal's first goal - the referee was standing five yards away and he should have given it.

Arsenal could have had another late on, but Mesut Ozil struck the post from inside the area.

On the other hand, Antonio Conte wasn't so pleased with the outcome of the match. Fair play to him, he changed the system. Victor Moses has been good and played an important season.

It was all done in front of Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, a staunch supporter of his manager in the face of mounting criticism, and with a decision still pending on Wenger's future.

It capped a day on which everything seemed to go right for Wenger.

The Londoner said he was more concerned about the "Chelsea forward line" than "anything happening to me". Even when he was not selected, he worked even harder. Arsenal dominated most of the match, stifling star players N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard. "It's been an up and down season but we've finished with the FA Cup so it has to be successful", he said.

Since the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in April, when the atmosphere around the club reached toxic levels, Wenger's switch to three-at-the-back has sparked a dramatic upturn in form.

The Premier League champions also claimed Sanchez handled in the build-up.

"I don't think I can answer that question", Wenger said, "at the moment". Diego Costa's 76th minute equaliser proved the high point, but the optimism lasted only two minutes.

An accompanying note, signed William, read: "We will never fear coming together to celebrate all that unites us".

"The way we function gets the best out of the individual qualities of the players. This team has exceptional potential".

"I believe that it is a positive trend but it would be a bit ridiculous that 20 years depends on one game and that the future of the club depends on one game". If there are more to come, it provides hope that the future could be a little brighter.
