James Bond star Sir Roger Moore dies at age 89

A letter posted on Roger Moore's Twitter account said he died Tuesday in Switzerland.

"The love with which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it can not be qualified in words alone", his three children said in a statement.

Sir Roger Moore, the legendary actor who portrayed British agent James Bond in the popular movie franchise, has died at 89.

Moore was known for his shows The Saint and The Persuaders.

More than a decade later, Moore landed the role of James Bond.

Moore was the fourth actor to play James Bond, following in the steps of David Niven, Sean Connery and George Lazenby. He featured as Bond in seven films between 1973 and 1985.

With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the very bad news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today.

Moore was married four times, to Doorn Van Steyn, Dorothy Squires, Luisa Mattioli, and Kristina Tholstrup, and has three children. "The capacity crowd cheered him and off stage, shaking the very foundations of the building just a short distance from where he was born".
