Freeform has officially ordered the "Black-ish" spinoff starring Yara Shahidi to series, TheWrap has learned. To any aspiring writers struggling to make it out there, I highly advise adding an '-ish' to any working title you might have. The rest of the core cast will be new characters and actors, not seen in the flagship series, both in the administration and student body who all reflect the complex and hilarious points of views on college campuses.

College-ish was originally developed as a spin-off for ABC, but the premise skewed too young, so it's being moved to the network's sister channel, Freeform.

The tentatively titled, College-ish, will debut on Freeform sometime next year, the cable network announced on Friday.

Deon Cole is set to star on the spin-off, reprising his "Black-ish" role as Charlie.

Black-ish's May 3 episode, "Liberal Arts", will be a backdoor pilot for the new series, which was initially pitched for ABC, but eventually landed at Freeform, which has a younger audience. Barris will executive produce alongside Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and Brian Dobbins.

"Our goal at Freeform is to celebrate the power, possibility and inclusivity of youth culture through our shows", said Karey Burke, executive VP, programming and development, Freeform. The show was written by Kenya Barris and Larry Wilmore, who is no longer with the project. Only, unlike ruling the halls of her high school, Zoey soon learns that life isn't all that simple after leaving the nest.

Speaking on the extension of the Black-ish brand, Kenya Barris, the show's co-creator, said he never saw this expansion coming and only believes it can get bigger from here.
