Jammu: The Pakistan Army on Sunday initiated indiscriminate firing along the Line of Control in Chiti Bakri area of Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary conducted relief and rescue operation in Nowshera Sub-Division. "But difference now is, and people living on border are testimony to it, that the kind of retaliatory action which is being given by Indian side, was not seen for the decades together".
Mortar marks on walls of houses and shops in the area are a testimony to the brute firing by Pakistani army targeting the civilian population.
Almost 200-300 houses have been damaged, mostly partially, in shelling from across the LoC, said Harbans Lal Sharma, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Nowshera.
The army chief was briefed on the high state of operational readiness, effective response to Indian ceasefire violations and high morale of Pakistani troops, the military's media wing, the ISPR, said in a statement. Guftar Hussain said the injured had been admitted to the DHQ hospitals of Mirpur and Bhimber. Indian police said a 35-year-old woman was killed and her husband was injured when a Pakistani shell hit their home.
So far, three camps have been made operational and 28 others notified in wake of expected migration from affected villages, Choudhary said.
Authorities have closed all schools indefinitely in the areas close to the LoC.
This is the fourth ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces in past four days at Rajouri district. Nine persons were killed in these incidents.
India and Pakistan have a long history of bitter relations over Kashmir, a territory claimed by both. At least two deaths and three injuries were reported from the Indian side.
The Indian ceasefire violations continued throughout the day and they resorted to unprovoked firing in Baroh sector too.
