Rashford proving viable alternative to Ibrahimovic at United

Speaking before Thursday's Europa League quarter-final, second-leg against Anderlecht at Old Trafford, Mourinho was asked his thoughts on the France worldwide and whether leaving him on the bench indicated he was not fully satisfied with him.

Martial has struggled to adapt to life under Mourinho, with the 21-year-old starting just twelve Premier League games so far this season.

"I know we are together for nearly 10 months now".

"The same way I know what the players like, I think the players also know what I like".

That's why United have never won the Europa League, and why I won it in the only year I played in the competition, back in 2002/03.

"That is why I kept Marcus on the team the whole time - for months he was not scoring a goal, but my trust in the boy is always based on his mentality".

Manchester United made hard work of booking themselves a spot in the Europa League semi-finals last night against Anderlecht.

"First of all, if you don't concede, you go through, and that's important for us to know", he said.

"So do I think Anthony is a player with great potential?"

"I don't think they are easy injuries, but I prefer to wait until all the tests are done and then speak".

Asked when the pair were likely to be back in action, Mourinho replied: "If it was me, I think tomorrow".

"He can not play every game", Mourinho said after being asked if Rashford was capable of filling in for Ibrahimovic. They are also the favorites to win the Europa League which would guarantee a spot in the group stages of next season's Champions League draw.

Jose Mourinho, in his pre-match press conference, revealed that Juan Mata, Phil Jones, and Chris Smalling will miss this second leg match.

"We did not start well because we did not capitalise on the goal".

Insisting that there must be no complacency amongst his players, Mourinho also revealed that Sergio Romero would start in goal, ahead of David De Gea.

The oddsmakers are now pricing United between 1.92 to 2.25 to win Europa League.

"We played very well in the first half".

"Because he's so young, he's able to keep developing that day after day; he's always with one of the assistant coaches trying to make it even better".

"I never like to do that, complete separation".
