NIO Unveils Production Vehicle for China Market

NIO hasn't announced how powerful the ES8 will be, but has declared when it launches towards the end of 2017 it will be considered a "high-performance electric SUV".

"We've also realised that for a vision of the future, cars no longer need to be, let's say, very cold, mechanical, technical", Tomasson adds.

Although NIO is yet to confirm the car's final performance specifications ― they'll be announced as the vehicle comes to market ― it will be underpinned by the same technology found in the NIO EP9 supercar.

The NIO ES8 is a fullsize SUV with a 2-3-2 seating arrangement and measures 196 ins. It is a best-in-class product that showcases what is possible with electric vehicles. The model apparently features all-wheel-drive as the standard and possesses active air suspension. (4,980 mm) in length with a wheelbase of more than 118 ins.

NIO claims the manufacturing and supply chain that will produce the ES8 already is in place. NIO does mention a "charging experience that surpasses refueling at gas stations" that offers a swappable battery for the unit. I am proud of our relentless focus on vision and action. There has been no official announcements regard pricing or actual specifications of the vehicle at the auto show-concerning, considering how close the vehicle is to production.

In November 2016, NIO unveiled the fastest electric auto in the world, the EP9, by setting the track record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

It has racecar-like aero that means it can generate more than 2.5 lateral G. All the better for nabbing lap records around the Nürburgring and the Circuit of the Americas.

Visit NIO from April 21 - 28 at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition in Hall 7.1. Investors include Tencent, Temasek, Baidu Capital, Sequoia Capital, Lenovo, TPG and other world-renowned investment institutions.
